Taking on Clicker Training... March 27 Entry Our fuzzy webmaster goes back to school! (Part 7) |

To See Other Entries Class was really cool this week. After practicing our heels from last week, we learned about dog CPR and first aid. Good thing to cover in a class. Learned important things like if your dog breaks a leg, don't try to re-set it, just splint it as is. She taught us how to check our dog's pulse, listen to the heart beat, check if the dog was in shock, what to carry in your car, etc. All sorts of neat stuff. And at graduation we get a manual to remind us of all of this again which is really good because I don't think I absorbed it all. Outside of class, it's been really fun to watch Panda learn his play bows. In just one week he went from being severely confused to stretching on command. He'll also stretch just in general to see if we won't throw some food his way. He's doing it so reliably, I have started to click/treat only the good ones! In the beginning, I gave him anything close so he wouldn't get too frustrated and give up easy successes! I also got to work with Panda at playgroup today which was great because it's a serious amount of distraction. We worked on heel and touch and come and Panda was wonderful! With his CGC test tomorrow, it gave me confidence. Although I am still concerned about how he'll do on 2 of the tests: walking on a loose lead (which he's great at if he's tired enough) and not spooking during distractions. I hope he makes it! My class instructor thinks he'll sail through but she hasn't seen how skittish he can be. Oh, forgot the funniest story of the week... While working with touch in the kitchen, I got Panda to put his front feet up on the kitchen chair! I think this is great because he's very skittish in the kitchen and this is good work on more slippery floors (he's been on carpets up until now but he needs to do this on hospital type floors). The funny part was when Panda took it upon himself to jump up on the chair with all four paws! He was perched on this tiny seat like a seal waiting for it's beach ball. It was really cute!
